Archdiocese of Olomouc


The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Olomouc is a metropolitan archdiocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic. It has its seat in Olomouc.

As of 2015, it pastorally served 746,900 Catholics on 10,018 km2 in 418 parishes and 2 missions with 343 priests, 33 deacons, 326 lay religious and 19 seminarians.

History

Established in 1063 as Diocese of Olomouc / Olomucen, on territory split off from the then Diocese of Prague and promoted on 5 December 1777 to Metropolitan Archdiocese of Olomouc / Olomucen .
In 1788 it gained territory from the Diocese of Wrocław, in 1863 exchanged territory with Moravian Diocese of Brno.
