Ridwan Hassan
Ridwan Hassan is an Indonesian diplomat. He served as the ambassador of Indonesia to Qatar from 2020 to 2025.
Early life and education
Hassan was born on 11 August 1961 in Delapan Ilir, a subdistrict in Ilir Timur III District, Palembang, and was raised there. He began his education at SD MI Adabiyah 2 Palembang and graduated in 1972, then attended SMP Bina Warga Palembang and graduated in 1975. He later studied at SMA Negeri 1 Palembang and graduated in 1979, before enrolling at the Faculty of Economics, Sriwijaya University, where he graduated in 1986.Career
Hassan joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1987 and pursued a career as a diplomat. Prior to his appointment as ambassador, he served as Staff Expert for Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was involved in diplomacy related to international trade and economic cooperation, including public discussions and policy responses concerning palm oil and economic relations with the European Union.During his diplomatic career, he was posted to several Indonesian overseas missions, including the Embassy of Indonesia, Bogotá, the Embassy of Indonesia, Tokyo, the Embassy of Indonesia, Washington, D.C., the Embassy of Indonesia, Singapore, and the Consulate General of Indonesia, Dubai.
In November 2020, Hassan was appointed ambassador of Indonesia to Qatar, replacing M. Basri Sidehabi. He presented his credentials to the Emir of Qatar in December 2020. He served until December 2025, and at the end of his tenure he was awarded the Al-Wajbah Decoration by the Deputy Emir of Qatar in recognition of his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar.
