Politics

The municipal council consists of nine members elected by mixed-member [proportional representation]. Five councillors are elected by first-past-the-post voting in five wards, while the remaining four are chosen from party lists so that the total number of party representatives is proportional to the number of votes received. In the election of 1 November 2021 the African National Congress won a majority of five seats on the council.
The following table shows the results of the election.

Financial mismanagement

On 26 September 2024 Renosterberg local municipality senior managers were taken to court over R73.5 million rands of worker's pension funds that were never paid to the administration. The mayor stated that workers may not be able to access their funds due to the municipality's financial problems.
In January 2025, the municipality was listed as one of the top ten municipalities in arrears on their pension contributions.
