Pultenaea purpurea is a prostrateshrub that typically grows to a height of. The leaves are cylindrical, long, wide and hairy with stipules long at the base. The flowers are yellow-orange with red or purplish marks, each flower on a hairy pedicel about long. The sepals are hairy and long with hairy bracteoles long at the base. The standard petal is long, the wings long and the keel long. Flowering mainly occurs from September to December and the fruit is a flattened pod.
