Pteruchus barrealensis is one of the geologically earliest species of Pteruchus, and has very elongate polleniferous heads.

Pteruchus barrealensis from the Early Triassic of Australia may have been produced by the same plant as Umkomasia feistmantelii and ''Dicroidium zuberi''
