Preman Pensiun
Preman Pensiun is an Indonesian television series produced by MNC Pictures which premiered on 12 January 2015 on RCTI. It starring Didi Petet, Epy Kusnandar and Mat Drajat. The story about the life of thugs in Bandung.
Plot
Bahar, who is essentially just a "small thug", commands a considerable territory. As well as acting as a protector for street vendors, he also oversees Palasari Market and Cicaheum Terminal in Bandung. The story conveyed in this series does not chronicle his entire life journey but instead focuses on his later years when he decides to retire. The past recounted in the dialogue recalls Bahar's migration from Garut to Bandung around 1972, when he was a teenager. His family in the village was extremely poor. In Bandung, the young Bahar made a living selling tofu, leupeut, and salted eggs on buses before they departed from the terminal.
At that time, Bahar's income was modest, merely sufficient to get by. Nonetheless, he accepted it as his lot in life. However, what he could not tolerate was having to pay taxes to the thugs. Bahar reasoned that rather than being "taxed," it would be better for him to collect the tax himself.
His martial arts skills, honed through village tradition, and his burgeoning determination to survive and succeed in the diaspora propelled him to gradually enter the thug network controlling the terminal. Starting with mere "small change," year after year, Bahar steadily ascended to the peak of power.
During the first ten years, Bahar was merely part of the power structure within the thug network. In the subsequent twenty years, he became the authoritative figure gripping the streets, markets, and terminals.
His right-hand man was Muslihat, an amateur thief who entered his life approximately twenty years ago. Bahar successfully subdued Muslihat until he was unconscious, only regaining awareness three days later, in front of Bahar and the police. Upon discovering that Muslihat had stolen to afford his mother’s medical expenses, Bahar requested the police not to pursue legal action, acknowledging Muslihat as his brother and resolving the matter amicably.
Bahar then offered Muslihat one million rupiah, which was a considerable sum at that time. After a week, Muslihat returned to Bahar with the money still intact, intending to return it because, by the time he got back to his village in Samarang, Garut, his mother had already passed away.
Bahar subsequently invited Muslihat to work for him. The respect and trust Muslihat developed for Bahar made them inseparable for the next twenty years. Muslihat later recruited Komar at the terminal, who had previously been a busker that Muslihat had assisted, working for him after losing his favourite guitar.
Meanwhile, in the future, a prominent pickpocket named Junaedi recruited two partners, Saep and Ubed. Bahar's network continued to expand. The terminal owner, Jamal, was involved in violence in Dago. He was apprehended by the police, but Bahar and Muslihat chose to let him languish in prison, until Jamal sought revenge against Muslihat, albeit only half-heartedly towards Bahar.
