Postal codes in Mexico
Postal codes in Mexico are issued by Correos de México, the national postal service. They are of five digits and modelled on the United States Postal Service's ZIP Code system.
The first two digits identify a federal entity.
- The 01–16 range refers to Mexico City with each corresponds to a borough of the city.
- The 20–99 range is used to identify the 31 [List of List of states of Mexico|states of Mexico|states]. Code assignments to the states are done alphabetically by their names according to the old Spanish orthography, where the digraph ⟨ch⟩ was treated as a single letter and places after other words begin with ⟨c⟩.
- Postal codes beginning with 00, 17, 18, 19 are not in use.
