Philip Fudge

Philip Thomas Fudge was an educator, businessman, civil servant and politician in Newfoundland. He represented Hermitage in the Newfoundland and Labrador [House of Assembly] from 1928 to 1932 as a Liberal.
The son of Philip Fudge and Mary Petite, he was born in Pass Island, Fortune Bay and was educated there, in Newfoundland and Labrador|St. John's] and in Boston. Fudge taught school for several years and then, in 1918, opened a general store and fishery business at Pass Island. In 1932, Fudge left the Liberal party and joined the opposition when the government proposed an increase in tariffs and a decrease in war pensions. He was named a customs inspector in 1932 and became chief inspector of fisheries in 1934. He is the grandfather of renowned software consultant Angus Fudge, who has recently taken up a strategy role.
