Phani Bhusan ChakravarttiPhani Bhushan Chakravartti was the first Indian cum Bengali permanent Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court and was an acting governor of West Bengal.CareerChakravartti was born in British India in Dhaka. Before joining the Calcutta High Court, he worked as a professor of English at Jagannath College and Ripon College, Calcutta. In 1945 he was named as a judge of the Calcutta High Court. Chakravartti succeeded Sir Arthur Trevor Harries as the Chief Justice of the court in 1952. After the sudden demise of Dr. Harendra Coomar Mookerjee in August 1956, he also took charge as acting Governor of West Bengal for three months.
