Otelfingen is first mentioned in 1044 as Otilingun though there is some debate about this identification. In 1079 it was mentioned as Notkerus de Otelfingen.Geography
Otelfingen has an area of. Of this area, 47.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 37.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 14.8% is settled and the remainder is non-productive.The majority of the municipality is the village of Otelfingen, a Haufendorf located in the Furttal on the border with the Canton of Aargau.
