Before the name Nepali Congress was chosen, different proposals were discussed. The Central Working Committee member Pradeep Giri suggested Nepali Congress. Other proposals were Nepali Congress and Nepali Congress. The name Nepal Congress was made public on 22 September 2002.
Tarun Dal was the youth wing of the Nepali Congress. The 3rd general convention of Tarun Dal was held in Chitawan on July 17–20, 2007 and elected Mahendra Yadav as the new president of Tarun Dal.
