It was also observed by Heinrich d'Arrest on 15 March 1866, causing it to be listed twice in the New General Catalogue, as NGC 4129 and as NGC 4130.

Two supernovae have been observed in NGC 4129:SN1954aa was discovered by Fritz Zwicky on 2 April 1954.SN2002E was discovered by LOTOSS on 16 January 2002.
