Mykhailo Romaniv
Mykhailo Vasylovych Romaniv, is a Ukrainian politician who served as the Governor of Chernivisti Oblast in 2014, having previously already served from 2003 to 2005.
He is a candidate of economic sciences, doctor of philosophy, associate professor and was a member of the editorial board of the magazine "Finance of Ukraine".
Early life and education
Mikhailo Romaniv was born on 30 July 1956 in Korniv, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, to his father Vasyl Mikhailovych, and his mother, Anastasiya Petrivna who as a pensioner.He graduated from Chernivtsi State University in 1983 with a degree in finance
Career
From September 1973 to July 1974 he worked as a turner at the Graviton plant in Chernivtsi.From September 1974 to April 1978, he was a student at the Chernivtsi Financial College with a break from 1974 to 1976 due to service in the Soviet Army.
From May 1978 to June 1979 - senior personnel inspector at the Chernivtsi Financial College. From June 1979 to 1988, he worked as deputy and head of the Pervomaisky district financial department.
From 1988 to 1990, he was the deputy chief comptroller-inspector of the Ministry of Finance for the Chernivtsi region. In 1990 to 1996, he worked as deputy head, head of the financial department, and also as deputy chairman of the Chernivtsi regional state administration.
From 1996 to 2003, he was the head of the department of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, deputy head of the Main Control and Audit Directorate of Ukraine, head of the Control and Auditing Department of Kyiv.
He had been a member of the Chernivtsi Oblast Council for the 3rd and 4th convocations.
On 25 July 2003, Romaniv became Governor of Chernivtsi Oblast.
On 20 January 2005, he submitted a letter of resignation to the president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, together with the head of the presidential administration Viktor Medvedchuk and other heads of the Regional State Administration who were members of the SDPU : Ivan Rizak, Vadym Leshenko, and Valentyn Melnychuk, and left office on 21 January. Since that time, he was the director of the Chernivtsi Economic and Legal Institute.
In October 2007, he was the head of the Main Directorate of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi Oblast.
In 2008, he was elected chairman of the regional organization of the People's Party and headed its regional party organization.
On 15 March 2014, by decree No. 299 from acting president of Ukraine Olkesandr Turchynov, Romaniv was appointed Governor for the second term. This caused protests from activists from Self-Defense and Right Sector, who accused him of collaborating with the previous government and recalled his membership in the SDPU. As a result, after an hour-long conversation with 70 activists, Romaniv wrote a letter of resignation addressed to Turchynov. On 21 March by a new decree, acting president Turchynov appointed Roman Vanzuryak to his place, canceling the previous decree as unimplemented by another document.
Personal life
He is the author of more than 30 scientific works, including monographs: "State financial control and audit", "Modern Bukovyna: 1991-2005 in the results of the socio-economic and political development of the region".Family
His wife, Mariya Epifanivna works as a financier. The couple has tow children, son Mikhailo who is an engineer, and daughter Yuliya who is an economist and journalist.Romaniv can sing songs as his hobby.
