History
The locality takes its name from a railway station, which is named for the mountain, which in turn was named in June 1827 by explorer Allan Cunningham after the explorer Charles Sturt.The Killarney railway line opened from Warwick to Emu Vale on 2 June 1884 which included the Mount Sturt railway station. The line closed on 1 May 1964. Despite the name, the Mount Sturt railway station was not within the present-day locality of Mount Sturt but with the present-day locality of Yangan.
