Monica Alba


Monica Alba is an American broadcast journalist. She is a White House correspondent and producer at NBC News based in Washington, D.C. She joined in August 2012 and held several different roles, including news associate, producer, and political reporter. Before rejoining NBC, she worked as a filmmaker for three years at Home Court in New York.

Early life and education

Alba was born and raised in San Jose, California. Her family is from Mexico City. She became interested in journalism in high school, writing some articles for the school paper. She and attended the University of Southern California, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism. While at USC, she was a member of the Latino Honor Society. She then developed her skills as a filmmaker, joining Columbia University where she earned an MS in documentary filmmaking.

Career

Alba works as a White House correspondent for NBC News and covers the news from Washington, D.C. on presidential administrations, politics, campaigns, and press briefings.

Personal life

Alba married Dan Merica, who is also a political reporter, in July 2019. In 2021, Alba announced she was pregnant with her first child. Her son was born in February 2022.
