Mimecast
Mimecast Limited is a global cybersecurity company that addresses threats brought on by human risk.
The company is headquartered in London, and is owned by British investment firm Permira.
History
Mimecast was founded in 2003 by Peter Bauer and Neil Murray. The company started as a provider of cloud-based email management for Google Workspace, Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Office 365. Bauer, who trained as a Microsoft systems engineer and worked with corporate messaging systems, previously founded tech integration agency FAB Technology in 1997, and sold it in 1999 to Idion Technology Holdings. He became Mimecast's CEO. Murray was previously CTO at Global Technology Services and founder of Pro-Solutions. He became the company's CTO.In June 2010, Mimecast appointed Dr. Nathaniel Borenstein chief scientist. Borenstein co-created the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions email standard, along with other email systems and software.
On October 16, 2015, Mimecast announced that it filed its registration statement for a proposed initial public offering. Mimecast began trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol "MIME" on November 19, 2015. The offering closed on November 24, 2015.
On May 19, 2022, Mimecast was acquired by and become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Magnesium Bidco Limited, an affiliate of Permira Holdings Ltd.
In January 2024, Marc van Zadelhoff replaced Bauer as the company's CEO.

On July 10, 2018, Mimecast acquired cybersecurity training start up Ataata.On July 31, 2018, Mimecast acquired Solebit.
On November 14, 2019, Mimecast acquired DMARC Analyzer.
On January 6, 2020, Mimecast acquired Segasec.
In January 2024, Mimecast acquired human risk management specialist Elevate Security.
On July 24, 2024, Mimecast acquired Code42.
In August 2024, Mimecast acquired AI compliance software provider Aware.
