Mikhail Goussarov
Mikhail Goussarov was a Soviet mathematician who worked in low-dimensional topology. He and Victor Vassiliev independently discovered finite type invariants of knots and links. He drowned at the age of 41 in an accident in Tel Aviv, Israel.
