Michael Kinnane

Joseph Michael Kinnane was an Irish civil servant and commissioner of the Gardaí Síochána.

Life and career

Kinnane was born 18 January 1889 in Drumcondra, Dublin to national school teachers Michael and Eileen Kinnane.
He became the commissioner of the Gardai in June 1938, and held the position until his death in Booterstown on 10 July 1952. He was the first civilian commissioner to hold the position.
