Postal codes in Mexico
Postal codes in Mexico are issued by Correos de México, the national postal service. They are of five digits and modelled on the United States [Postal Service]'s ZIP Code system.
The first two digits identify a federal entity.
- The 01–16 range refers to Mexico City with each corresponds to a Boroughs of [Mexico City|borough] of the city.
- The 20–99 range is used to identify the 31 states of Mexico|states]. Code assignments to the states are done alphabetically by their names according to the old Spanish orthography, where the digraph ⟨ch⟩ was treated as a single letter and places after other words begin with ⟨c⟩.
- Postal codes beginning with 00, 17, 18, 19 are not in use.
