Mary Jane Corbett
Mary Jane Corbett was a British woman known to have started tourism in Nainital and was the mother of Jim Corbett, a hunter and conservationist. After the death of her husband, Christopher William Corbett, who was the postmaster of Nainital, she settled there in 1881 and established Gurney House as a lodging for visitors. She lived in Nainital until she died in 1924 and was buried in the graveyard of St. John in the Wilderness Church.
