Maipú, Chile
Maipú is a commune of Chile, located in Santiago Province, within the Santiago Metropolitan Region and forming part of the Greater Santiago conurbation. It was founded on 16 February 1821 and is historically significant as the site of the Battle of Maipú, where Chile's independence was consolidated. Maipú is the second largest commune in the country and is predominantly inhabited by a middle-class population.
Demographics
According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Maipú spans and had a population of 479,911, comprising 233,000 men and 247,000 women. The vast majority of people, 476,552 or 99.3%, lived in urban areas while 3,359 lived in rural areas. From 1992 to 2002, the population grew by 82.6%, an increase of 211,840 people.Statistics
