It was first written and published in French in Mesures and subsequently in English in The Atlantic Monthly.It was first anthologized in Nine Stories and was later reproduced in Nabokov's Dozen and The Stories of Vladimir Nabokov.
It became a chapter of Conclusive Evidence and subsequently of Drugie Berega and Speak, Memory: An Autobiography Revisited.
