Lyle Hare Stadium


Lyle Hare Stadium is an American football stadium located in Spearfish, South Dakota. It is home to the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets and the Spearfish High School football teams. It was opened in 1947.

Namesake

Originally from Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, Lyle Hare attended Dakota Territorial Normal School and was a member of the school's football and basketball teams. After graduating in 1907, he attended the University of South Dakota where he was a two-time all-conference fullback on the school's South [Dakota Coyotes football|football team]. He eventually returned to Dakota Territorial Normal School and would serve time as the school's football coach, school physician, and athletic director. He also served as the mayor of Spearfish from 1922 to 1926.
