Livia Franchini
Livia Franchini is an Italian writer and literary translator.
Early life and education
Franchini was born and raised in Tuscany, in a monolingual Italian household. She studied English in state school education before moving to London to study English literature at 19.She earned a BA Hons in Drama & English at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2010, followed by an MA in Creative Writing at Royal [Holloway University] in 2012. This was followed by a PhD in experimental women’s writing from Goldsmiths in 2021.
Career
While working towards her PhD her debut novel Shelf Life, written in English, was acquired by Doubleday in late 2018 and published in August 2019. A poetry pamphlet, Our Available Magic was published by Makina Books the same year.Franchini has translated works by Natalia Ginzburg, James Tiptree Jr. and Michael Donaghy, Lorenza Mazzetti among others.
She currently teaches creative writing at Goldsmiths, and has previously taught creative writing or translation with Royal Holloway, Bangor University, University of Hertfordshire, London College of Creative Media, City Lit, Escuela de Escritores, DeBuren and Wintertuin.
