It is found in coastal rivers of French Guiana and northern Brazil.EtymologyIt is named in honor of botanist-ornithologist Jean-Baptiste Louis Claude Theodore Leschenault de La Tour, who, along with entomologist Adolphe Jacques Louis Doumerc, provided the type specimen.
