Lakehead is a census-designated place in Shasta County, California. Lakehead sits at an elevation of. Lakehead is located halfway between Seattle and Los Angeles. Its population is 469 as of the 2020 census, up from 461 from the 2010 census.

History

In 2018, the western part of Lakehead was closed to the public due to the Carr Fire.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP covers an area of 5.3 square miles, 4.7 square miles of it is land, and 0.6 square miles of it is water.

Demographics

Lakehead first appeared as a census designated place under the name Lakehead-Lakeshore in the 2000 U.S. census. The CDP was renamed Lakehead prior to the 2010 U.S. census.
The 2020 United States census reported that Lakehead had a population of 469. The population density was. The racial makeup of Lakehead was 401 White, 1 African American, 7 Native American, 5 Asian, 1 Pacific Islander, 14 from other races, and 40 from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 25 persons.
The whole population lived in households. There were 228 households, out of which 17 had children under the age of 18 living in them, 81 were married-couple households, 19 were cohabiting couple households, 48 had a female householder with no partner present, and 80 had a male householder with no partner present. 99 households were one person, and 49 were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.06. There were 113 families.
The age distribution was 62 people under the age of 18, 8 people aged 18 to 24, 64 people aged 25 to 44, 173 people aged 45 to 64, and 162 people who were 65years of age or older. The median age was 58.2years. For every 100 females, there were 126.6 males.
There were 360 housing units at an average density of, of which 228 were occupied. Of these, 175 were owner-occupied, and 53 were occupied by renters.

The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.71% White, 0.18% African American, 3.64% Native American, 1.46% from other races, and 2.00% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.55% of the population.
There were 240 households, out of which 20.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.8% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. 22.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.63.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 17.7% under the age of 18, 3.6% from 18 to 24, 18.9% from 25 to 44, 35.9% from 45 to 64, and 23.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females, there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.
