Kovanec


Kovanec is a municipality and village in Mladá Boleslav District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 100 inhabitants.

Etymology

Kovanec is a diminutive form of Kováň, which is a village next to Kovanec. The name Kováň is derived from the personal name Kován, meaning "Kován's ".

Geography

Kovanec is located about west of Mladá Boleslav and northeast of Prague. It lies in the Jizera Table. The municipality is situated on the right bank of the stream Strenický potok.

History

The first written mention of Kovanec is from 1546.

Transport

There are no railways or major roads passing through the municipality.

Sights

The main landmark of Kovanec is the Protestant church. It was built in the Baroque style in 1786 and the Neo-Romanesque tower was added in 1876. Next to the church is a Protestant cemetery.
