Khata Khel خٹہ
Khata Khel is a Pashtun sub-clan associated with the Yousafzai tribe, primarily located in Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The clan forms part of the traditional Yousafzai settlement structure established in the region following the Yousafzai migration into Swat during the late medieval period.
Origin
Khata Khels traces its lineage to the Yousafzai Pashtuns, who migrated from eastern Afghanistan into the Swat Valley between the 15th and 16th centuries. After their arrival, Yousafzai tribes organised land ownership and settlement through the wesh system, under which Khata Khel emerged as a recognised territorial and genealogical unit.
Family lineage
Khata was the son of Zubar, the grandson of Asha, and the great-grandson of Nikpi. His lineage forms the foundation of the Khata Khel clan.
Khata had four sons, each of whom became the founder of a distinct sub-clan :
- Khani, progenitor of Khani Khel
- Shamshi, progenitor of Shamshe Khel
- Adro, progenitor of Adro Khel
- Sheikh, progenitor of Shekhan Khel
