Jonathan Hill (architect)
Jonathan Hill was an English architect, architectural historian, editor, and author.
Biography
Jonathan Hill received a Diploma from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in 1983, a Master of Science degree from University College London in 1990, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of London in 2000.Hill joined University College London, part of the University of London, England, in 1989. He was Professor of Architecture and Visual Theory in the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL. He led the Architecture MArch PG12 studio and was director of the Architectural Design MPhil/PhD programme, the first such programme to be established in the United Kingdom.
Hill died from cancer on 1 November 2023, at the age of 65.
In 2026, Bartlett School of Architecture inaugurated a PhD prize to celebrate 25 years of its Architectural Design MPhil/PhD programme, from which Hill was the first graduate. The Jonathan Hill Architectural Design PhD Fund was announced in January 2026.
