Jaime de la Sotta
Jaime de la Sotta Benavente is a Chilean agricultural engineer and politician.
He served as Undersecretary of Agriculture and as Minister of Agriculture during the Pinochet regime of General Augusto Pinochet. He was also National Director of the Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero between 1979 and 1983.
He was the son of Jaime Antonio de la Sotta Larenas and María Rebeca Benavente Boizard, owners of agricultural properties in the commune of Cauquenes.
In 1972, he married Marcela Elena Correa Cortés, with whom he had four children: María Carolina, Marcela, Rosario and Jaime Andrés.
During the crisis de las uvas chilenas he traveled to Washington, D.C., together with Foreign Minister Hernán Felipe Errazuriz, to seek a diplomatic resolution, which proved successful.
