Plot

Lieutenant Commander Harmon "Harm" Rabb, Jr., a former aviator, and Marine Major Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie work for the Headquarters of the Judge Advocate General, the internal law firm of the Department of the Navy. Bud Roberts, Ensign Harriet Sims, and Commander Carolyn Imes, as they investigate cases including the discovery of a skeleton aboard a decommissioned ship, a fraternization charge, a training accident, and a murder in Vietnam. Meanwhile, Mac comes face-to-face with her past, and departs JAG for private-practice, Bud tries his hand at Karaoke, Harm is accused of murder, Harm and Mac travel to Russia, Rear Admiral A.J. Chegwidden loses his mentor, and Mac learns of Lieutenant Diane Schonke, her doppelganger whose murder was investigated by Harm and Lieutenant Meg Austin in 1996.

Production

Despite an initial reluctance to co-operate from the United States Department of the Navy, during season three, the naval services had begun to change their minds, and began to render support to the production team on a script-by-script basis. Commander Bob Anderson of the Navy's entertainment media liaison office in Los Angeles stated that "we're fine with that as long as the bad guys are caught and punished, and the institution of the Navy is not the bad guy".
