Hubei Federation of Trade Unions
The Hubei Federation of Trade Unions, is a provincial branch of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.
History
The Hubei Federation of Trade Unions was founded in February 1923 in Wuhan following the February 7th Strike on the Beijing-Hankou Railway, a landmark event mobilizing 30,000 workers against foreign rail concessions. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, the HBFTU operated clandestinely in the Dabie Mountains, sabotaging Japanese steel shipments from the Daye Iron Mine to occupied Wuhan.Post-1949, the HBFTU managed labor relations in state-owned heavy industries, overseeing enterprises like the Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation in 1955. Post-1978 reforms saw it address layoffs in Wuhan's textile mills and mediate disputes in Dongguan's electronics factories. In the 21st century, the HBFTU focused on tech-driven labor reforms through the Hubei Workers' Innovation Hub in 2017 and digital platforms under the provincial "Digital Hubei" strategy.
