Hitomi Obara


Hitomi Obara née Sakamoto was a Japanese female wrestler from Hachinohe, Aomori. She was Captain in the Japan [Ground Self-Defense Force].
On 8 August 2012, Obara won the Wrestling at the [2012 Summer Olympics - Women's freestyle 48 kg|women's 48kg freestyle] wrestling gold in her first 2012 [Summer Olympics|Olympic Games] at London's Excel Arena.
Hitomi Obara died on 18 July 2025, at the age of 44. She had previously been diagnosed with depression and an eating disorder.
