Hasselberg


Hasselberg is a municipality in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Geography

The municipality cooperates on an administrative level with the neighboring municipalities in the Gelting Bay community. Besides the town of Hasselbjerg, the municipality also includes settlements Baggeland, Bobæk, Drejet, Eckenhöh, Egebjerg, Engbjerg, Eversholt, Gejlbjerg, Gundelsby, Haberholt, Gl. Hasselbjerg, Holm, Hyholt, Kidholm, Kirsebærhøj, Knorløk or Knorlykke, Markskel, Møllemark, Nelslyk, Nørremark, Pugholt, Raaland, Svendsholt, Svakketorp, Skjelrød, Skilleled, Strengtoft, Søndermark, Vormshoved and Ulvsholt.
North of the village on the border with Kronsgaard municipality is the 19 ha protected Færgeskov. At Kidholm, the small Bobæk originates, which after seven km empties into Gelting Nor.

History

Hasselbjerg is first mentioned in 1462. The place name is derived from hassel. In older Danish there is also the form Hesselbjerg. In 1535, Haselbjerg is mentioned as a village with 6 farms belonging to Bukhavn estate. In 1609, the village was closed down and turned into a dairy farm. In 1987, the municipality had an area of 1130 ha and had 831 inhabitants.
