Hamilton County, Iowa


Hamilton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,039, and was estimated to be 14,856 in 2024. The county seat and the largest city is Webster City. The county was named to honor William W. Hamilton, a President of the Iowa State Senate.

The racial makeup of the county was 86.97% White, 0.68% African American, 0.51% Native American, 2.12% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 4.47% from some other races and 5.25% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 9.74% of the population.
The median age was 42.8 years, with 23.1% of residents under the age of 18 and 21.1% of residents 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 102.3 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 100.4 males age 18 and over.
50.6% of residents lived in urban areas, while 49.4% lived in rural areas.
There were 6,283 households in the county, of which 27.7% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 50.8% were married-couple households, 20.0% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 22.7% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. The racial makeup of the county was 96.71% White, 0.23% African American, 0.20% Native American, 1.46% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.61% from some other races and 0.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 1.42% of the population.
There were 6,692 households, out of which 30.60% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.90% were married couples living together, 7.60% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.30% were non-families. 27.50% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.60% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.95.
