Hairini


Hairini is a suburb of Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island.
The New Zealand Transport Agency is constructing a road underpass through the suburb.

Hairini had a population of 3,246 in the 2023 New Zealand census, a decrease of 84 people since the 2018 census, and an increase of 297 people since the 2013 census. There were 1,617 males, 1,617 females, and 9 people of other genders in 1,260 dwellings. 3.0% of people identified as LGBTIQ+. The median age was 40.0 years. There were 576 people aged under 15 years, 576 aged 15 to 29, 1,344 aged 30 to 64, and 747 aged 65 or older.
People could identify as more than one ethnicity. The results were 76.8% European ; 28.0% Māori; 2.6% Pasifika; 7.2% Asian; 0.8% Middle Eastern, Latin American and African New Zealanders ; and 2.2% other, which includes people giving their ethnicity as "New Zealander". English was spoken by 96.9%, Māori by 8.6%, Samoan by 0.2%, and other languages by 7.9%. No language could be spoken by 2.2%. New Zealand Sign Language was known by 0.5%. The percentage of people born overseas was 19.2, compared with 28.8% nationally.
Religious affiliations were 30.8% Christian, 0.9% Hindu, 0.6% Islam, 7.0% Māori religious beliefs, 0.6% Buddhist, 0.6% New Age, 0.1% Jewish, and 2.5% other religions. People who answered that they had no religion were 50.1%, and 7.4% of people did not answer the census question.
Of those at least 15 years old, 468 people had a bachelor's or higher degree, 1,560 had a post-high school certificate or diploma, and 639 people exclusively held high school qualifications. The median income was $37,600, compared with $41,500 nationally. 165 people earned over $100,000 compared to 12.1% nationally. The employment status of those at least 15 was 1,263 full-time, 315 part-time, and 81 unemployed.
