Guillermo Bazan


Guillermo Carlos Bazan is an American chemist, material scientist, and academic.
Bazan earned a B.Sc with Honors in chemistry from the University of Ottawa in 1986, and a Ph.D in Inorganic Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1991. From 1992 to 1998 he was on the faculty of the University of Rochester. In 1998 he was appointed as a professor in the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department and the Materials Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In January 2020, he took a position at the National University of Singapore, joining the faculty of the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials initiated by Professor Konstantin Novoselov. In March 2024, he became director of IDMxS, a research centre of excellence at Nanyang Technological University, becoming a professor at the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology.
Bazan has over 670 publications, an h-index of 120, and his work has been recognized by the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award of the American Chemical Society and the Bessel Award of the Humboldt Foundation. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
