Gaetano Mormile


Gaetano Mormile was an Italian painter, mainly of genre subjects, often peasants in folkloric dress, but also vedute and Neo-Pompeian subjects.

Biography

He studied in the Academy of Naples under Giuseppe Mancinelli. Among his exhibited works were paintings titled Il girovago ''La Guzla, Vien lo Sposo . Monday after Pentecost ; Vanità precoce ; Fra Girolamo Savonarola; Il ritorno dalla Madonna dell' Arco ; and La Matassa . In 1884 at Turin, he displayed Passa la Vacca ; Tre per una lira ; L'ombrello del frate ; Un' antica passione .
In 1859 he first displayed at the Neapolitan Promotrice with paintings: such as
Neapolitan Costume A Concert and Un Frate Questuante , Il Curato . In Subsequent years, he displayed: Innocenza e Brio ; I Concorrenti , Una Visita ; La Difesa del Convento di San Marco ; Il Messaggio Amoroso , and At Pompeii''.
He opened a studio in via Chiatamone in Mergellina, Naples; and exhibited in Milan, Turin, Genoa, and Rome. It is likely the painter Salvatore Mormile was a twin.
