He graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990 and from Boston College Law School with a Juris Doctor in 1997.Legal careerFrom 1997 to 2003 he practiced law in Boston, Massachusetts.Political careerFrom 1990 to 1994 he served as a foreign policy and defense legislative assistant in the office of Senator John Kerry. From 2003 to 2009 he served in numerous positions relating to foreign policy and national security while working on the Kerry Edwards Presidential Campaign and for Senator John Kerry. From 2009 to 2011 he served as staff director and chief counsel of the United States Senate [Foreign Relations Committee].LobbyingFrom 2011 to 2013 he served as principal of the Podesta Group.Diplomatic careerFrom 2013 to 2014 he served as a senior advisor to the United States Secretary of State.
