Eschatogonia

Eschatogonia is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Ramalinaceae. It has seven species. The genus was circumscribed by the Italian lichenologist Vittore Benedetto Antonio Trevisan de Saint-Léon in 1853.

Description

The genus Eschatogonia includes lichens with a thallus, meaning the body of the lichen is composed of small, scale-like lobes known as. These squamules have a single layer of cortical tissue on both their upper and lower surfaces. The lichen's, or photosynthetic partner, is a green alga.
The apothecia are and lack a, meaning they do not have a rim of thallus-derived tissue around them. The apothecia range in colour from flesh-toned to reddish brown. Each ascus within the apothecia typically contains eight spores. These spores are colourless and, meaning they are spindle-shaped, tapering at both ends.
