Erivan Gymnasium

Erivan male gymnasium was opened on January 14, 1832, as an Erivan uezd school, in 1869 it became a progymnasium, and on March 31, 1881, it became a gymnasium.

The Erivan male gymnasium, opened in 1881, had 216 students and the director of the gymnasium was Vladimir Iosifovich Brazhnikov. Firidun Bey Kocherli, an outstanding educator, was a night teacher in this gymnasium in 1885-1895 and then worked as a teacher of calligraphy in the preparatory class.
The duration of education in the gymnasium was 4 years. In 1883, 37 Azerbaijanis studied in the gymnasium. The first graduation of the gymnasium was in 1885. Ismayil Bey Shafibeyov was the head of the Muslim department of the Erivan Gymnasium.
Mustafa Topchubashov, Akbar agha Sheykhulislamov, Teymur bey Makinsky, Aziz Aliyev, Irza-bey Hajibeylinsky, Habib Bey Salimov were well-known graduates of the gymnasium.
