Employee Recognition

Employee Recognition is a scholarly work, published in 1993 in ''AORN Journal''. The main subjects of the publication include materials science, human resource management, and business. Hirty years ago, a business leader theorized that employees would be more pro-T ductive if they were treated with respect.' Today's employees are no different. They want to be recognized and valued for their unique contributions to their organizations.2In this era of cost containment and increasing governmental regulations, health care institutions are discovering that praise is a most useful and inexpensive management tool. When employees feel recognized, important, and essential, they enjoy their work, and this shows in their behavior-they accomplish their work more quickly and more efficiently.Recognition and respect for employees' contributions to patient care is an extension of quality assurance. The surgical services department at St Marys Hospital of Rochester (Minn) developed a working model for employees to transform patterns of relationships, to enhance employee recognition, and, by doing so, to enhance the authors' delivery of patient care. The Beginning e began by conducting an employee opinion survey, the results of which indicated that personnel in the Department of Surgical Services felt a consistent lack of recognition as employees. We responded to these findings by making several resources available to the employees.
