Dugawan was established in the 19th century when the Shaikhzadas of Lucknow were granted 700 acres of land comprising two villages as compensation. This followed the appropriation of their palaces by Nawab Saadat Khan Burhanul-Mulk, which were later declared the property of the Nawab Wazir by Safdar Jang. The neighbourhood's name derives from "Do Gaon," reflecting its origins as a merger of these villages. Historical references also mention localities like Hata-e-Sheikhan, underscoring its ties to Sheikh communities.
