Dhofar Liberation Front

Dhofar Liberation Front was a communist front that was established to create a separatist state in Dhofar, the southernmost province of Oman, which shared a border with South Yemen. The DLF was established on 26 December 1964 following the merger of the Dhufari Soldiers' Organization and the Dhofar Benevolent Society. Its main aim was to secure funding for the development of the area and to end the rule of the Sultan Said bin Taimur.
The two leadership characters that would be at the core of the front's short history were Musallam bin Nufl and Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah. They began the Dhofar rebellion against the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman, and were supported by South Yemen after its independence in 1967.
Almost all weapons were supplied through South Yemen, many of the Dhofars went to China to study guerrilla warfare. Оne of the mentors of this party was George Habash, Palestinian founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, who was ideologically a Marxist-Leninist and Arab nationalist.
