Development of critical care nursing in Hunan is a scholarly work, published in 2016 in ''Connect The World of Critical Care Nursing''. The main subjects of the publication include medicine, nursing manager, medical specialty, mechanical ventilation, quality, quality management, delirium, sepsis, nursing, health care, and intensive care medicine. Critical care nursing (CCN) is an important area in health care system, which provides focused monitoring and intensive treatment to critically ill patients.• In spite of a late start, the CCN in Hunan Province has achieved significant progress in development of intensive care units (ICUs), quality management, specialty training and research.• There are some challenges for CCN development in Hunan Province, in terms of the quality management, nursing human resources, specialty training and research. .• Continuous improvements could be achieved by enhancing the ICUs in level-II hospitals, building a specialized nursing team, improving the management system, promoting nursing research, and encouraging international collaborations.
