Demexiptiline

Demexiptiline is a tricyclic antidepressant used in France for the treatment of Major [depressive disorder|depression]. It acts primarily as a norepinephrine [reuptake inhibitor] similarly to desipramine.

Synthesis

The ketone dibenzosuberenone is treated with hydroxylamine to give its ketoxime. Base-catalyzed alkylation with yields demexiptiline.
