Christian Barozzi


Christian Barozzi is a former Swiss foil fencer.

Career

He started fencing at the age of seven in Lugano. His historic clubs have been the Club Scherma Lodetti in Lugano and the Racing Club de France. He is currently a member and official of Lugano Scherma and St. Moritz & Engiadina Fencing Club.
Barozzi participated at the 1987 Cadet World Championships in Tel Aviv, at 1989 Junior World Championships in Athens, at 1990 Junior World Championships in Mödling and at the 1991 Junior World Championships in Istanbul. Barozzi won four Swiss individual foil titles: 1987, 1988, 1990, and 1991. In addition, he claimed two Swiss team titles with the Lugano club in the elite category, in 1990 and 1991.
In 2008, he founded the Lugano Scherma club with three other friends and became its vice president and sports manager for 16 years. In 2016, Barozzi, along with Roberto Bianchini and Isabella Tarchini, became a promoter of the Vales Association, a project dedicated to women who have undergone breast cancer treatment. In 2020, he launched the project for Paralympic athletes at Lugano Scherma in coordination with Swiss Paralympic and Davide Bogiani.
In 2021, he was elected vice president of Swiss Fencing with responsibility for communication and marketing. In 2023, he was appointed the general director of Swiss Fencing.During his tenure as Director General of the Swiss Fencing Federation, Christian Barozzi coordinated the organizational activities for the 2024 European Fencing Championships in Basel and oversaw the preparation of the Swiss delegation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Additionally, under his leadership, Swiss Fencing recognized Lugano as a new national fencing center, in view of the inauguration of the new sports facility to be built at the Polo Sportivo e degli Eventi in Lugano by the end of 2026.
