Chivukula Anjaneya Murthy


C. A. Murthy was a senior scientist and higher academic grade Professor of the Indian Statistical Institute, whose primary research contributions were to the fields of pattern recognition, image processing, machine learning, neural networks, fractals, genetic algorithms, wavelets and data mining.
He was the head of the Machine Intelligence Unit and professor-in-charge of the Computer and Communication Sciences Division at the Indian Statistical Institute.

Education

Murthy received his B. Stat., M. Stat. and Ph.D. degrees from the Indian Statistical Institute. He was a visiting researcher at Michigan State University in 1991-92, and Pennsylvania State University in 1996-97.

Awards and recognition

Murthy was a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering Fellow, National Academy of Sciences Fellow and VASVIK Fellow. Murthy's “An efficient method of hard and fuzzy clustering of multidimensional data” was awarded Computer Engineering Division Medal by the Institution of Engineers (India) in 1996-97.
According to Google Scholar, Murthy's work has been cited more than 5,000 times.

Murthy died in a road accident in front of the Indian Statistical Institute.
