Chelmonops curiosus


The western talma, truncate coralfish or squareback butterflyfish, is a species of butterflyfish in the genus Chelmonops endemic to Australia. It is also known commonly as the truncate butterflyfish.

Description

The western talma resembles the eastern talma ; however, the western talma is distinguished by its longer dorsal and anal fins, and deeper body. Chelmonops curiosus grows to 26 cm in length.

Range and habitat

Chelmonops curiosus ranges in eastern Indian Ocean and off of Australia. It is found around coral reefss at a depth range 51 – 57 m.
