Charlotte Elaine Pierce was born in Girard, Illinois, and raised in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Schuyler Rensselaer Pierce and Faye Ransom Pierce. Her father was an engineer involved in construction.Career
Pierce was a dancer and dance teacher as a young woman.
